All that glitters is now sustainable

At the recent 2023 Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW), Harpers Bazaar commented, “a standout piece was a pailette-sequinned top that glistened like iridescent fish scales against the majestic Sydney Harbour Bridge”.
Those stunning sequins were, in fact, made from recycled plastic waste that would otherwise go to landfill or ocean. It’s just one example of sustainable innovation in the fashion industry, and just one of many new generation materials being developed in this space.
Ethical Edit is proud to work with the supplier of these sequins: a leading manufacturer and exporter of high fashion beaded garments based in India.
This small factory in Delhi has a team of ateliers creating incredible, intricate pieces – cutting, stitching and finishing each garment by hand to ensure the delicate sequins and beads aren’t damaged. The experienced team specialises in novelty fabrics and prints, intricate stitching techniques, sequins, embroidery, printed and pigment dyed garments.
The round discs creating a more circular solution
As with all of Ethical Edit’s suppliers, our sequin supplier takes sustainability and ethical practices seriously.
Among the company’s many values is maintaining ethical, legal and social practices within a ‘personal conscience framework’. They believe in uncompromising quality, while ensuring benefits to their employees and encouraging their staff towards personal growth.
The factory provides clean drinking water, clean facilities and safety measures to ensure their staff’s comfort and safety. They also condemn the use of child labour in no uncertain terms – no one below the age of 18 years is allowed on the premises.
I’m thrilled to be able to source materials and garments that meet the values of sustainably minded designers. These glittering discs are just another way we can help our industry shine through sustainable, ethical and regenerative practices.
