Meet Chimuk, a slow fashion, social impact brand, producing high quality knit and crochet pieces out of Peru. The brand has been created by 21 Peruvian women, who seek the opportunity of a better life for themselves and their families.

Based out of a public health centre in Huanchaquito, Peru, Chimuk began as a community programme focusing on empowering women through knitting with a local NGO, Hands on Peru. Over time, as the women improved their skills and showed their dedication to the programme, they were able to create their own brand, Chimuk – a name that pays homage to the ancient Chimú civilisation that ruled the land the artisans live and work on.

Today, as well as creating original designs for Chimuk, the company also offers ethical production opportunities for aligned brands, including Ethical Edit and Maggie Marilyn, such as the beautiful tote bag. The perfect beach day carry-all, the Ocean Tote is crafted in a durable organic cotton and handmade in Peru by local artisans.

I was thrilled to to collaborate with the team at Chimuk to source this stunning hand-crafted product. It was an amazing experience working with such talented women, and to watch the bag come together. José was a great communicator throughout the entire process, and his creative input was crucial to getting the bag looking as good as it did.
