Every day, millions of us wear bright, colourful clothing, not realising the impact of those artificial dyes on our environment and the communities that create them. As we now know, that impact is significant, which is why we’re delighted to partner with a supplier in India offering naturally dyed linens in a range of gorgeous hues.

As the name suggests, natural dyes are extracted from plants and natural materials, rather than man-made chemicals that can harm humans, soil, water and damage entire ecosystems with toxic waste caused by carcinogenic residuals. Dyes created from nature cause far less environmental and water pollution than more toxic synthetic dyes, and they also generate work and livelihoods for entire artisan communities.

From nature, better for nature.

The linen our supplier uses is European flax, organically grown without the use of harmful chemicals, fertilisers or GMO seeds, protecting the soil and water in which its grown – and importantly, the human beings who grow it.

The dyes themselves range from herbal dyes derived from materials such as madder roots, pomegranate peels, wood flower plants, indigofera plants, myrobalan trees (also called ‘cherry plum trees’) and other naturally-occurring materials. This process results in soft, gentle hues in the fabrics, and, most importantly, a much gentler environmental footprint.

Through our supplier, we can offer a range of ready-made linen clothing, offering clean lines, fluid shapes and multi-functional silhouettes, in a range of soft, stunning colours from nature – from pinks to blues to greens to neutrals.

Inspirational fabrics from an inspirational supplier.

Our Fairtrade supplier’s focus on sustainability extends beyond clothing and textiles to the artisan communities that create them. By engaging artisan workers in communities across India, the aim to actively improve the lives of those living on the poverty line and create a far-reaching socio-economic impact that will last for generations.

Like us, this company’s founder believes in providing stable employment for vulnerable artisan communities living below the poverty line, providing education and healthcare for their children, empowering women financially, and preserving eco-friendly artisan craft and community practices.

By choosing this natural-dyed linen, you’re not only creating a positive impact for our environment … but also the fabric of our society.
