Regenerated nylon: completing the loop
At Ethical Edit, we’re very excited to source a new (yet not-so-new) product... ECONYL® regenerated nylon. As its name suggests, ECONYL® is recycled nylon fibre – regenerated from fishing nets, fabric scraps, carpets and industrial plastics – from our oceans, waterways and landfill.
This amazing regenerated nylon is a pioneering example of a circular, sustainable material – closing the complete loop of recycling. It’s infinitely recyclable, which means it can be recycled and re-moulded to make new products, time and time again, without losing its quality. There’s no waste and no new resources used: just endless possibilities for fashion and textile designers.
What’s more, for every 10,000 tons of ECONYL® raw material, the manufacturers are able to save 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoid 57,100 tons of CO2 equivalent emissions. In short, it reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 80% compared with virgin nylon created from oil.
Versatile, fashionable and ethical ... we love it!
In fashion, ECONYL® regenerated nylon is being used in a plethora of products, from high-end designer handbags to hosiery, from high-performance sportswear and activewear, to swimwear and lingerie.
Gucci is paving the way by using it in their ‘Gucci Off the Grid’ handbags, their first collection in their vision for for circular production. And we expect to see it in used by many more ethical and planet-minded brands over the coming months.
The beauty of this unique material is that we can offer small quantities and as our supplier has a range of stock colours. Or if you have a particular concept using ECONYL® in mind, please don’t hestitate to get in touch. It’s the kind of ethical, environment-enhancing product we love to source!
